It was a quiet day at the big hospital. We went up to Pediatrics, but they only had a couple of patients, and one was allergic to cats. The patient we did see was a boy who was in bed. He was in pain — my human knew this because in the middle of our visit, the nurse came in to discuss pain meds. I knew because I’m a cat and know these things.
So I just stretched out next to the boy and purred as loud as I could and made happy paws. Meanwhile my human talked with his father. Their family has five cats and three dogs, so he had lots to talk about! So it was easy for me to do my work while my human kept him occupied. The boy didn’t feel good enough to even pet me, but I think I did some good being there.
We saw some patients and staff on our way up to Behavioral Medicine. Like happened last time, the staff said they were bringing in a couple of people and it turned out to be four patients. It was three men and a woman, and they were all really nice. Everybody petted me and wanted to know more about me. The youngest patient was a boy who may still have been a teenager. He had cats at home. I gave paw shakes to everybody and my human took photos of me posing with them. Except the young man — he just wanted a photo of me without being in the shot.
By then it was time for us to sign out. We stopped so I could visit a couple of people on our way out. Even though we didn’t seem to do a whole lot, we spent a lot of time with the people we did see.

It was pretty quiet at the big hospital this week! But I can still make a difference with the patients I do get to see.
