Weird Times at the Assisted Living Facilities

I visited the assisted living facilities this week, and what happened early on was a first for me and my human. A staff member lined up some residents on a sofa with me for a photo. The lady on the end was really happy to see me. She watched me do high fives for a treat, so she held out her hand, like she wanted a treat to give me. So my human put one in her palm…and she popped it in her mouth! The two guys on the couch with her thought it was pretty hilarious. The woman was pretty coherent, and my human was able to carry on a conversation with her, so it took us by surprise. No matter, I had lots of treats. I was able to spare one.

We saw quite a few familiar faces. The only one we missed was the woman who always asks me for high fives. But the woman who loves cats was there, although she was a little vague. She asked my human questions about me as if she had never seen me before. The guy who caused a scene last time I was there was calmer today, so I was able to visit with him.

The woman who was new on our last visit seems to have settled in. She was a little confused and upset before, but she was in a better frame of mind now and was drinking a cup of chocolate milk. When we finished our visits and were leaving, a staff member stood in front of the residents in the big room and asked if anyone knew what day it was. Nobody answered.

We stopped by the second house for a while. It’s not as lively as the first house, but we do have our regulars. There’s a woman with most of her jawbone missing who adores me. And a thin woman in ragged clothes who always remembers my name and breed. A few residents tried having conversations with my human but they didn’t make a lot of sense. I’m glad I’m a kitty because nearly everyone understands me without talking.
